Frequently Asked Questions

Which bareback-pad material should I choose?

Choose the all-purpose Herculon option when durability, water resistance, and easier maintenance matter most. Select the wool-blanket top for a traditional textile feel, or the Ultrasuede gel pad when added grip, felt structure, and shock-absorbing gel are priorities.

Does a bareback pad provide the same support as a saddle?

No. A bareback pad adds cushioning and grip but does not have a rigid tree to distribute the rider’s weight like a correctly fitted saddle. Choose it for appropriate short rides or balance work, not as an automatic replacement for a saddle during long or demanding riding.

How do I know whether the bareback pad will fit my horse?

Check that the pad covers the rider’s seat area without pressing against the withers or extending awkwardly over the horse’s back.

Is the included girth suitable for every horse?

Not necessarily. Measure the horse and confirm the included girth before ordering. Add a correctly sized replacement rather than overtightening a short girth.

What is the purpose of the fleece lining?

Fleece creates a softer surface against the horse and can help manage friction and moisture during use. Choose genuine Merino-wool fleece when natural cushioning is important, but expect it to require more careful cleaning and drying than a synthetic liner.

Can I mount the horse by pulling on the bareback-pad handle?

The handle is better used for light balance support than as a mounting handle. Pulling heavily from one side can cause a treeless pad to rotate, so mount from a block or with assistance and confirm that the pad remains centered.

Are bareback pads with stirrups a safer choice?

Not necessarily. Without a saddle tree, stirrup pressure can be concentrated across a narrow section of the horse’s back and may also increase the risk of the pad twisting. The pads in this collection avoid attached stirrups, which is preferable when the goal is simple cushioned bareback riding.
