This versatile loping hackamore allows the rider to communicate pressure without affecting the tongue or bars, making this a helpful horse training tool for many horsemanship scenarios. A loping hackamore is commonly used to give well-broke horses a break from a bit and headstall, especially useful for long days of trail riding or other relaxed days in the saddle.

This loping hackamore setup can protect a well trained horse’s sensitive mouth from inexperienced riders who may be prone to applying too much pressure on the reins, or gives an experienced trainer a mechanism for going back to the basics.

Like on a bosal, the mecate rein attaches at the bottom of the noseband, which allows the rider to communicate lateral cues and encourage vertical flexion, helping horses understand turning and bending signals. However, the wider placement of the rein on a loping hackamore helps a horse more easily recognize left and right cues. The loping hackamore noseband is softer and lighter than a traditional hackamore with a bosal, designed for gentler communication at slower gaits.
